Lisa Liebetrau & Shannon Lyons

March - November 2023

While in residence at Goolugatup Lisa Liebetrau and Shannon Lyons will be developing new work in collaboration. This work will be exhibited as part of TILT, an annual site-responsive exhibition commission presented by the City of Melville and Goolugatup Heathcote.

Tilt 2023 Opening Friday 3rd November, 6pm

This exhibition brings together the work of multidisciplinary artists Lisa Liebetrau and Shannon Lyons, to investigate the institutional histories and spaces at Goolugatup Heathcote, that was once home to the former Point Heathcote Mental Reception Home. Curated by Brent Harrison, this exhibition will explore Heathcote’s progressive approach to the treatment of mental health, the lived experiences of its patients, doctors and nurses, and the transformation of the site into a cultural precinct. As patients’ recoveries at Heathcote were partly facilitated by its tranquil surroundings and the refreshing sea breeze; the gallery also offers a similar experience; a quiet, safe space for contemplation and healing. Through the artists' responses to the institutional history of the site, the exhibition will explore these similarities between its former and current use.
