Ben Crappsley presents Habitation & Decay: a collection of digital collage prints on paper investigating combinations of cockroach images with iconic motifs of human habitation, investigation, reverence and organisation.
Cockroaches are often viewed as a pest that needs to be removed from our domestic habitat. Though they share our spaces, they dwell in a substratum of our built environment and our psyche.
Let us reconsider our relationship with these insects. As symbols of durability, endurance, and continuance the cockroach has much to offer as a metaphor for philosophical contemplation.
